Please join us for a reception to launch FAIRR’s new protein producer index, followed by an exclusive, pre-release screening of Eating Animals at Soho House NYC on Wednesday 30th May 2018.

60% of the world’s largest protein companies are failing to disclose basic management across critical risks.

That’s the key finding from FAIRR’s new index, the world’s first comprehensive assessment of how some of the largest global intensive livestock and fish farming companies are managing critical ESG risks facing the sector: from GHG emissions, deforestation and biodiversity to working conditions and animal welfare.

As fundamental building blocks of the global food supply chain, the companies assessed have a combined market capitalisation of $297 billion, with revenues of $299 billion. However, the majority are not displaying basic management of key risks. The Index, which brings together the risk factors and companies for the first time, is a resource for institutional investors to assess and engage with these important protein producers in their portfolios.

We are delighted to launch the Index with an exclusive pre-screening of Eating Animals, a landmark movie that could change public perception of current food systems. Coming to theatres in June, the film is narrated and produced by Academy Award Winner Natalie Portman and is based on the best-selling book by Jonathan Safran Foer. It is an eye-opening look at the environmental, economic and public health risks of factory farming, also highlighted in FAIRR’s Index.

The film traces the history of food production in the United States and how farming has transitioned from being local and sustainable to an intensified system offering cheap eggs, meat, and dairy but with steep environmental and social costs. Spotlighting farmers who have pushed backed against industrial agriculture with more sustainable practices, Eating Animals offers attainable, common sense solutions to a growing crisis.
