About the network

FAIRR was launched in 2015 and comprises of an investor network that has since attracted over more than 400 investor members with upwards of $75 trillion in assets. The network includes leading investment managers and asset owners, pension funds and insurance companies worldwide. FAIRR provides research, data and tools that raise awareness of the ESG risks and opportunities related to the global food system and focusing on the intensive animal agriculture industry. It elevates the investor voice to guide the transition to a sustainable food system.

Collaboration advances impact

The FAIRR Initiative engages in proactive dialogues with investors, companies, policymakers and stakeholders around material ESG issues in the global food system. FAIRR supports its investor members to identify and prioritise these factors through cutting-edge research and data, which can then be integrated into investment decision-making processes and provides members the opportunity to join engagements with companies on specific issues. While membership in FAIRR does not explicitly or implicitly imply support of, or participation in, any particular project or engagement, FAIRR members may take the opportunity to support engagements led by FAIRR on topics of interest to them. Through these engagements, FAIRR enables investor members to exercise their influence as responsible stewards of capital while safeguarding the long-term value of their investment portfolios.

In 2023 FAIRR facilitated investor-led collaborative engagements with 57 companies across the protein value chain on ESG issues such as antibiotic use, protein diversification, working conditions, nutrient pollution and seafood traceability. 25% of the companies participated in the engagement dialogues led by investor members

When the Coller FAIRR Protein Producer Index was launched in 2018, only 27% of companies responded to assessments. In 2023, 50% provided feedback to their assessments – underlining that the Index has become a standard benchmark for the sector.
