The COVID-19 crisis underscores the importance of the essential workers who farm, fish and process the food that we eat. Despite this, workers in food supply chains continue to face unsafe working conditions, intimidation, threats, hunger and non-payment of wages. In fact, meat processing plants across the world—in places as diverse as Australia, Europe, the US and Brazil—have caused alarm for poor working conditions and their role in facilitating the spread of the virus.
