Alternative Protein & ESG: Impact and Opportunities for Financial Institutions

Food systems seem to be changing. Among other disruptions, alternative proteins have seen growing consumer interest in recent years. But do these trends have the potential to sustainably transform and address challenges in the environment and within our own diets? What does this mean for FIs in Asia?

Agriculture is the leading cause of global deforestation and food systems account for about one third of anthropogenic global greenhouse gas emissions. The need to transition to more sustainable agriculture is particularly pressing in Asia – a region especially vulnerable to natural disaster impacts, exacerbated by climate change and with significant risks of future food shortages. Financial institutions have a crucial role to play in addressing these risks and building a global food system that operates within both the planetary boundaries and provides our populations with healthy food.

At this event, our Policy Director, Helena Wright, and our Policy Officer, Eline Reintjes, will discuss key findings from the Coller FAIRR Protein Producer Index 2021/22 with a focus on Asia and what this means for financial institutions.

Other speakers include:

  • Devon Booney, Food and Beverage Sector Lead, Value Reporting Foundation;

  • Christian Cadeo, Managing Director Asia, Big Idea Ventures

  • Kristina Anguelova, Asia Sustainable Finance Initiative, WWF-Singapore
