FAIRR at COP31

The 31st Conference of the Parties (COP31) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) will be held in Antalya, Türkiye, from 9 to 20 November 2026. The UN climate summit remains the world's biggest gathering to tackle the impacts of climate change and achieve a net-zero transition in line with the Paris Agreement targets.

Why COP31 matters for the agri-food sector?

Agri-food emissions account for around a third of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, making the transformation of food systems essential to tackling climate change. Agriculture is also particularly vulnerable to the growing impacts of a changing climate. At the same time, the food system holds real potential to deliver solutions, offering co-benefits for climate mitigation and adaptation.

What FAIRR expects to see at COP31

A new agriculture workstream

FAIRR expects to see progress on a new agriculture workstream that would drive a holistic transformation of the food system, scaling up the financial support needed for this shift and ensuring food and agriculture are better reflected in national plans and policies.

A robust Forest Roadmap

FAIRR will be watching for a robust Forest Roadmap, setting out clear recommendations and actions to halt and reverse deforestation and forest degradation by 2030, and recognising agriculture and food as a driver of forest loss and a source of solutions for deforestation and conversion-free supply chains.

Closer alignment of public finance with climate goals

FAIRR expects continued momentum on aligning public finance and incentives with climate goals, including the repurposing of harmful agricultural subsidies and the redirection of public finance towards farming practices that reduce exposure to climate-related risks.

Stronger integration of food systems into national climate plans

FAIRR expects continued discussion on embedding food and agriculture more clearly into Nationally Determined Contributions, with clearer sectoral pathways, targets and delivery mechanisms linking climate, biodiversity, water, health and nutrition outcomes.

How FAIRR is involved in COP31

As an investor network of over 400 members representing more than US$95 trillion in combined assets, FAIRR will aim to bring the investor voice to COP31 discussions on food system risk. FAIRR will engage with policymakers, investors and other stakeholders to highlight the material financial risks and opportunities linked to the agri-food transition.

Through research, policy engagement and stakeholder convening, FAIRR works to ensure investor-informed evidence is reflected in climate and food system policy discussions, helping strengthen the alignment between public policy, capital markets and long-term food system resilience. FAIRR will also host and take part in a range of events and dialogues throughout the summit, creating opportunities for knowledge-sharing and collaboration across the investor and policy communities.
