FAIRR at COP17
The 17th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP17) will be held in Yerevan, Armenia, from 19 to 30 October 2026. The summit brings governments together to assess progress against the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and agree on further action to halt and reverse biodiversity loss by 2030.

Why COP17 matters for the agri-food sector?
Agriculture is both a major driver of biodiversity loss and highly dependent on the ecosystems it affects. Decisions taken at COP17 on how to accelerate implementation of the Global Biodiversity Framework will shape how agricultural practices, land use and supply chains need to change in the years ahead, with direct implications for investors exposed to the sector.
What FAIRR expects to see at COP17
Progress on repurposing harmful subsidies
Governments are expected to report on progress against Target 18 of the Global Biodiversity Framework, which calls for harmful subsidies to be identified and reduced by at least US$500 billion a year by 2030. FAIRR will continue to track this issue, building on its 2023 investor statement calling on G20 finance ministers to repurpose agricultural subsidies in line with climate and nature goals.
Stronger integration of food systems into national plans
FAIRR expects continued discussion on embedding food systems more clearly into National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans, with clearer sectoral pathways linking climate, biodiversity, water and nutrition outcomes.
Movement on disclosure and mandatory reporting
FAIRR will be watching for progress on mandatory climate- and nature-related disclosure frameworks, which give investors the comparable, decision-useful data needed to assess food system risk across portfolios.

How FAIRR is involved in COP17
As an investor network of over 400 members representing more than US$95 trillion in assets, FAIRR will aim to bring the investor voice to COP17 discussions on food system risk.
As an accredited observer to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), FAIRR will play an active role at COP17, monitoring negotiations and policy developments that could shape the regulatory, market and investment landscape for nature-related risks and opportunities.
FAIRR will have a multi-disciplinary team on the ground throughout COP17, bringing together expertise from across the organisation, including policy, research, investor engagement and communications. This will enable FAIRR to track developments across the summit and provide timely insights on the issues most important to investors.
FAIRR will track key discussions relevant to agriculture, food systems and the implementation of the Global Biodiversity Framework. FAIRR will also host a dedicated booth and meeting space for investor briefings, workshops, stakeholder dialogues and bilateral meetings.
Throughout COP17, FAIRR will engage with policymakers, investors and food system experts, while participating in official side events and other relevant dialogues. By convening key stakeholders and tracking developments across the summit, FAIRR aims to support investor understanding of how biodiversity-related policy outcomes may affect food system resilience, supply chains and material investment risks.
