Simi joined FAIRR as Climate Economist in 2021 and serves as FAIRR’s primary expert on climate risk. She leads research and data analysis of the financial impacts of climate change on the private sector. 

Working at FAIRR 

Simi works at the intersection of climate and economics. Her work provides data-driven insights to investors and stakeholders to assess climate risk in their investments and industries. She led the development of FAIRR’s Climate Risk Tool, launched in March 2022, that incorporates complex climate science in a user-friendly interface. This one-of-its-kind tool enables agrifood investors to learn of underlying risk drivers and mitigation opportunities, helping to inform capital allocation and stewardship strategies.  

In her role at FAIRR, Simi also consults with investors, development finance institutions, NGOs, and academics to assist international stakeholders progress along 1.5C-aligned pathways to meet 2030 and 2050 climate targets. She has led panels and presentations worldwide at New York Climate Action Week, COP 28, and Responsible Investor Japan, and her research has been featured in more than 25 news outlets, including Bloomberg and Forbes.

Experience 

An economist by training, Simi has more than a decade of experience on climate change. Throughout her career, she has led pioneering work using models and tools to advance understanding of climate change’s impact on countries, sectors, and companies. She has worked with key global players including the United Nations, the International Monetary Fund, the Government of India to build strategic vision and innovative solutions to plan for complex real-world challenges. 

Simi writes regularly as a Forbes contributor on the theme of sustainability. She also serves on the technical council of SBTi (Science Based Targets Initiative), the global body that mobilises the private sector to lead urgent climate action.  

Simi holds a Ph.D. in International Economics from Yokohama National University Japan, with Masters and Bachelors degrees from University of Delhi.
