Owen joined FAIRR in 2023 and now works within the Biodiversity team on FAIRR’s Ocean Programme.
Working at FAIRR
Owen supports FAIRR’s Seafood Traceability Engagement, which aims to strengthen traceability systems among seven major seafood companies to address environmental and social risks and realise sustainable opportunities in seafood supply chains.
Owen also contributes to the development of the Coller FAIRR Seafood Index, a new investor benchmark. The Index will assess 20 of the world’s largest wild-catch and aquaculture companies and offer robust, company-specific insights, enabling investors and stakeholders to better understand the material risks and opportunities facing the fast-evolving seafood and aquaculture industries.
Prior to joining the Oceans programme, Owen worked on FAIRR’s Food Technology & Alternative Protein research. He developed proprietary datasets and analytical frameworks covering alternative protein start-ups, regulatory developments and sovereign investment trends. This work contributed to the Protein Diversification Phase 2 Progress Report. He also produced a database informing FAIRR’s thematic report on regenerative agriculture and supported the initial development of FAIRR’s collaborative Seafood Traceability engagement, amongst other contributions to FAIRR’s Sustainable Aquaculture and Waste & Pollution engagements.
He has also authored multiple pieces covering seaweed and regenerative aquaculture, deforestation risks across key agricultural commodities, and alternative protein trends.
Experience
Owen holds an MSc with Distinction in Sustainable Food Systems and a First Class BSc in Environmental Science from the University of Leeds. He also holds a CFA Institute Investment Foundations Certificate.
